The Countdown Has Officially Begun!

The 2009 JCC Maccabi Games® will be held in San Francisco for the first time, August 2 - 7, 2009

In August 2009, San Francisco will celebrate the JCC Maccabi Games®, welcoming 1,300 Jewish athletes ages 13 to 16, along with their families and friends, more than 1,000 volunteers and 400 to 600 host families. In this Olympics-style athletic competition, delegates from the San Francisco Bay Area, across North America, Israel and various international locations, will test their athletic abilities, gain confidence, learn teamwork and have a great time.

The JCC Maccabi Games® promote and encourage the health, physical fitness and well-being while instilling teenage athletes with an appreciation for Jewish values, enriching their Jewish identity and encouraging their identification with the State of Israel.

The JCC Maccabi Games® week includes:
  • 5 days and evenings of sporting events - including baseball, soccer, basketball, volleyball, flag football, swimming, golf, tennis, table tennis, track & field, dance and bowling, as well as a number of social events.
  • A day dedicated to a community service project, dubbed "A Day of Caring and Sharing."
  • The participation of more than 300 local athletes, 1000 visiting athletes and 500 coaches and chaperones.
  • Approximately 500 host families who will open their homes to the visiting athletes, representing the Jewish value "hachnasat orchim," the welcoming of strangers.
  • The contribution of more than 1000 local volunteers of all ages, ensuring a memorable experience for everyone involved.
